The Giants have locked up their franchise player for life.

Buster Posey was signed to a nine-year contract extension worth a lucrative $167 million, with a team option for 2022.

His salary will steadily increase each year, as Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle spills out the numbers:

2013: $8 million

2014: $12.5 million

2015: $16.5 million

2016: $20 million

2017-2021: $21.4 million

2022: $22 million team option

Posey signed a one-year, $8 million deal earlier this offseason to avoid arbitration.

He is coming off of an amazing 2012 season, where he won the NL MVP Award and his second World Series’ title in three years.

Posey hit a blistering .336 with 24 home runs and 103 RBI, claiming the batting title and the Comeback Player of the Year Award after Scott Cousins derailed his 2011 campaign.
