The Oakland A’s made a flurry of moves on Friday afternoon, designating first baseman Daric Barton and relief pitcher Travis Blackley for assignment, while claiming pitchers Danny Otero and Josh Stinson off waivers.

Barton, once regarded as a top prospect, struggled mightily in recent seasons and hit .204 last year.

Blackley pitched very well as a fill-in starter and long reliever in 2012, going 6-4 with a 3.86 ERA. However, his struggles this spring (14.21 ERA) have made him the odd-man out of the pitching staff.

Otero and Stinson will replace them, both claimed off of waivers.

Otero appeared in 12 games for the Giants last season, recording a 5.84 ERA.

Stinson pitched in 10 games for the Brewers, and was solid with a 1-0 record and 1.50 ERA.
