After the huge snafu by Elvis Dumervil’s agent earlier in the week, failing to fax in a confirmation of a contract with the Denver Broncos, it looked like Elvis had left the building. Today he truly has, agreeing to a reported five-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens.
NFL Impact - After losing six defensive starters to either retirement or free agency, the Ravens looked like they were a sinking ship. Well, Baltimore fans can now sleep better tonight as the ship has been righted, or at least you can say the life boats are abundant and no one appears to be a possible drowning victim.
Dumervil will be teaming up with Terrell Suggs to give the Ravens a devastating defensive attack from the defensive end unit. While the defensive front is now formidable, they still have to replace their heart and soul’s on defense, Ray Lewis (retirement) and Ed Reed (Houston Texans). With time still left in free agency and with the NFL Draft just weeks away, there is plenty of time to still add talented players.
Fantasy Spin - The Ravens defensive/special teams unit played as a D/ST2 in deeper fantasy formats in 2012. After losing six starters, things don’t appear to be on the up-and-up. While the Dumervil signing will help in the sack department, the Ravens defense as a whole still has plenty of patchwork to do to make this a team worth considering as a bench unit. They are a team that should be drafted in the last few rounds or left on the board, opting to grab them as a bye-week replacement or defensive matchup against teams like, cough, Cleveland.
