The Oakland A’s have optioned second baseman Jemile Weeks and outfielder Shane Peterson to Triple A Sacramento, the team announced.

Weeks’ career has taken an epic downfall after a superb rookie season. Once thought of as a future franchise player for the A’s, Weeks hit just .221 with two home runs in 118 games last season, and was even demoted to Triple A for a few games.

He competed for the A’s second base position, but with this news breaking, it appears that Weeks is out of the running. Erik Sogard, who has had a dominant spring, along with the healthy Scott Sizemore, become the two leading candidates.

Misc. - The A’s also optioned outfielder Shane Peterson to Triple A.
