Oakland Raiders free agent punter Shane Lechler will visit with the Houston Texans on Thursday, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.
Lechler is a seven time Pro Bowler and has made the All-Pro team nine times. He was named to the NFL’s 2000s All-Decade team, and has the record for the longest punt in Raiders history of 80 yards.
He signed a four-year, $16 million contract in 2009 that made him the highest paid punter in the NFL. McClain reports that the Texans were interested in signing Lechler back then, but the Raiders gave him way too much for them to counter.
Lechler was born in Texas, and went to high school and college (Texas A&M) in the Lone Star State until being drafted by the Raiders in 2000. He has spent his entire 13-year career in Oakland.
