Quarterback David Carr has agreed to a one-year deal with the New York Giants and will return as Eli Manning’s back-up in 2013. It will be his fifth season in the last six years as the Giants’ No. 2 man.
In recent days the Giants had been expressing interest in former Tennessee Titans quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, but after signing with the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday morning, the Giants looked back in Carr’s direction. Apparently unhappy with the market and the opportunity to start elsewhere, Carr decided to remain with New York.
The Giants had previously anticipated Carr leaving via free agency and signed Curtis Painter as insurance. However, with the former No. 1 draft pick now back in the Big Apple, Painters will likely be released to free up some cap room.
