With the recent departure of Lou Amundson to the New Orleans Hornets, the continued poor play of Nazr Mohammed, and the absence Taj Gibson due to injury the Chicago Bulls were in the market for yet another back-up big man. Enter Malcolm Thomas, one of the stars of Chicago’s NBA Summer League team. The news comes from a tweet from RealGM’s Sam Charania.
As you’ll recall, Thomas, a big fan favorite to be signed after putting up 11.4 points and 12.4 rebounds per game during the summer league, was not signed this season in favor of Vladamir Radmonovic. As a result Thomas has spent the majority of the season playing in Israel for Maccabi Tel-Aviv. Upon his return to the states, he’s signed a 10-day contract with the Golden State Warriors. He the most playing time he has all season this past Friday when he got 10 minutes against the Chicago Bulls.
It’ll be interesting to see if Thomas gets more playing time than Lou Amundson did or if he simply sits on the bench while Mohammed continues to play. According to Charania, Thomas will be en route to Chicago shortly which opens up the possibility he could play Thursday against the Portland Trailblazers.
