Brandon Myers could go from a struggling franchise to a contender in an instant.
According to the New York Daily News, Myers is scheduled to visit the Giants in New Jersey on Saturday. New York has apparently been interested for a while in Myers, and they believe he is the right fit to replace the departed Martellus Bennett.
Myers, who had 79 receptions for 806 yards and four touchdowns last season, made some comments earlier in March that indicated he would be signing with another team via free agency.
“Obviously, I’d like to stay,” Myers said.“I’ve got a lot of friendships and know the coaches really well. They took a chance on me when I got drafted. I’d like to be there but it’s not looking like that right now. I guess I just have to stay patient and figure some stuff out. We’re pretty confident I’ll have ajob here in a couple of weeks, but I’ll just try to sti back and not stress about it.
Myers is optimistic that the Raiders will give him a offer, but “[the Raiders] had a conversation at the combine and it didn’t sound like they were ready to do that.”
Should Myers bolt for the Giants, this would open up another huge hole in the Raiders roster. His 79 receptions were the most for any franchise tight end since Todd Christensen in 1986, and the Raiders don’t have another viable option on their team to replace him.
