One of the biggest winners in the reported Anquan Boldin trade undoubtedly has to be Colin Kaepernick, who spoke on ESPN earlier today.
“I just heard the rumors probably about 30 minutes ago,” Kaepernick said (via ProFootballTalk). “If that’s a true statement and that’s going to happen, that’s another great weapon for our offense, another great weapon for our team, and he’d be a great contributor.”
Boldin torched the 49ers for 104 yards and a touchdown on six receptions during the Super Bowl, where the Ravens were victorious 34-31.
As for Kaepernick, he’s just glad to add a quality receiver.
“We need another receiver,” he said. “We have great receivers already, but he’s another great addition. I think everybody saw what he’s capable of this past year, what he did in the Super Bowl, so that’s just another playmaker on our team.”
Other than Michael Crabtree, the 49ers had little consistency from their wide receivers last year. Mario Manningham and Kyle Williams were injured midseason, Ted Ginn Jr. and Randy Moss didn’t contribute a whole lot, and rookie AJ Jenkins was a non-factor.
With the acquisition of Boldin, that’s just another weapon or decoy the 49ers can use to allow Kaepernick to flourish.
