The San Jose State Spartans host the UTSA Roadrunners at the Events Center tonight in the final week of WAC regular season play.  The Spartans (9-18, 3-13 WAC) lost to Louisiana Tech 88 – 61 in Ruston, LA last Saturday, while UTSA (8-20, 3-13 WAC) lost to Seattle 53 – 37 in San Antonio, TX last Saturday.

SJSU is led by Chris Cunningham (10.4 points per game) and DJ Brown (9.5 ppg).  Cunningham also leads with 9.1 rebounds per game, with Alex Brown chipping in 4.7 rpg.  DJ Brown leads the Spartans with 3.8 assists per game.

The Spartans shoot 38.0 percent from the floor, 30.9 percent behind the 3-point line, and 65.6 percent from the free throw line.

UTSA is led by Kannon Burrage (17.4 ppg), Michael Hale III (15.9 ppg), and Jeromie Hill (12.8 ppg).  Hill (6.2 rpg), Edrico McGregor (4.6 rpg), and Burrage (4.5 rpg) lead the Roadrunners in rebounding.  Hale is the leading playmaker with 3.8 apg.

The Roadrunners shoot 39.9 percent from the floor, 34.2 percent behind the 3-point line, and 67.9 percent from the free throw line.

Both teams play a deliberate style of offense, with the Spartans having the slight edge in rebounding.  The Spartans will have to clamp down on defense, limiting open shots for Burrage, Hale, and Hill, and allowing Cunningham to clear the defensive boards and initiate the outlet pass.  The Spartans will need to execute their halfcourt offense, setting solid picks, making crisp cuts, and finding the open teammate for good shot selection.

Tip off is 7 pm Pacific time.
