Thus far, Reggie McKenzie has been extremely impressive in getting the Raiders out of salary cap trouble.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, the Raiders have reconstructed the contract of safety Tyvon Branch from $6 million to a meager $715,000 in 2013, converting the rest into a signing bonus.
They also added two years onto Branch’s deal, so he is now signed through 2017. Branch will make $6.5 million in both 2016 and 2017, and his 2014 and 2015 salaries remain the same.
This comes a week after they reduced right guard Mike Brisiel’s 2013 salary by $3 million.
After these moves, the Raiders are now $6 million under the salary cap, and they may not be done. Carson Palmer, Tommy Kelly, Michael Huff, and Darrius Heyward-Bey could also restructure their contracts.
