One of the coolest things that David Stern and the NBA has done is transform basketball into an international sport. Countries from all around the world follow the NBA, and they will be rewarded next season when seven teams will be playing preseason games overseas.

Two of the those teams will be the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers, who are scheduled to square off for two games in China in October of 2013.

The teams will play in Beijing on Oct. 15, and Shanghai on the 18th.

Being of Asian descent and having been to China on numerous trips, I can tell you firsthand that the stands will be packed for both of these games. China has embraced basketball as one of its most popular sports, and having the opportunity to see a superstar like Kobe Bryant play in their home country will surely be a treat.

“Providing fans with an authentic NBA experience is an important part of our efforts to grow the game globally,” said Stern in a press release. “This fall, nearly a third of our teams will embark on a global tour that will celebrate the game of basketball, give our international fans a chance to connect with NBA teams and players, and leave a lasting impact in each of the communities we visit.”
