The San Jose Earthquakes play Real Salt Lake to kick off their MLS campaign, which has happened three times in the past four years.

San Jose has won six of their 16 meetings with Salt Lake, with five losses and five ties making up the rest. The Earthquakes will be looking to follow up their fantastic 2012 season by hitting the ground running, but Salt Lake has a lot to prove after losing 5-0 to the Quakes in their previous matchup.

Chris Wondolowski will be looking to follow up his record-breaking season with some more powerful displays, although Salt Lake will be looking to keep him out of the match.

Wondolowski scored 27 goals in 35 games last season, and will be looking to do his best to improve, despite being past what is generally considered his prime (now aged 30).

Alvoro Saborio will also be looking to have this best season with RSL, so the Quakes will need to have improved their defense after last season’s below-average efforts.
