The University of San Francisco Dons visit the University of San Diego Toreros at Jenny Craig Pavilion in a WCC match up. The Dons beat Pepperdine in San Francisco 64 – 58 last Saturday.  USD was blown out by Gonzaga 81 – 50 in Spokane, WA last Saturday.

USF is led by junior forward Cole Dickerson (14.5 points per game), junior point guard Cody Doolin (12.4 ppg), and junior wing De’End Parker (11.9 ppg).  Dickerson also leads the Dons in rebounding (9.3 rebounds per game), followed up by Tim Derksen (3.8 rpg).  Doolin leads USF in assists with 5.6 assists per game.

The Dons shoot 44.9 percent from the field, 39.8 percent behind the 3-point line, and 67.2 percent from the free throw line.

The Toreros are led by Johnny Dee (14.6 ppg), Ken Rancifer (10.0 ppg), Christopher Anderson (9.1 ppg), and Chris Manresa (9.0 ppg).  Manresa leads the Toreros in rebounding (6.3 rpg), while Anderson grabs 3.9 rpg.  Anderson is the Toreros’ leading playmaker with 5.5 apg.

USD shoots 43.3 percent from the field, 34.6 percent behind the 3-point line, and 67.2 percent from the free throw line.

The game plan for the Dons is simple:  limit Dee’s and Rancifer’s touches on the perimeter, as both are prolific 3-point shooters, averaging better than 43 percent from distance.  Anderson creates for his teammates, so staying in front of him on defense will limit his playmaking opportunities.  Manresa is a solid rebounder, so the Dons frontcourt will need to check him on both ends of the court.

USD will wind the shot clock down, executing their offense until a shooter is open after multiple passes and defensive rotations.

On offense, Doolin needs to find the lane on dribble penetration in order to get easy buckets for Parker and Dickerson.  Doolin will need to control the tempo, initiating the fast break on missed shots and slowing it down when USD gets back on defense.  Dickerson needs to crash the offensive boards to get more putbacks.  And Parker needs to let the game come to him, taking the open shot when it presents itself, and creating his own offense by finding open lanes.

Tip off is 6 pm Pacific time.
