Brett Anderson has been named the Oakland A’s Opening Day starter, manager Bob Melvin announced today.

He recovered from Tommy John surgery late last season, and had a 4-2 record with a 2.57 ERA in six starts. He also threw six shutout innings against the Tigers in his only postseason appearance.

“He’s the one to lead the staff,” Melvin said. He also talked about Anderson’s competitiveness.

Anderson, who is 25, has a career record of 25-25 with a 3.57 ERA.

His placement as the number one starter is in line with our projections, which goes as following:

1) Brett Anderson

2) Jarrod Parker

3) Tommy Milone

4) AJ Griffin

5) Dan Straily / Bartolo Colon
