The 49ers are “not inclined” to pursue a trade for Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis at this time, according to a report from ESPN.
It was largely speculated, and even reported yesterday, that the 49ers would be interested in Revis after trading away Alex Smith.
San Francisco has 15 picks in his upcoming draft thanks to the Alex Smith trade, and could use them to their advantage in pulling off a trade.
Revis has been the subject of trade rumors this offseason, and last month, it was reported that the 49ers were “highly interested” in acquiring him.
He regarded by many as the top cornerback in the league, but missed all but two games of the 2012 season with a torn ACL and subsequent knee surgery.
The Jets will likely ask for at least a first round pick in exchange for Revis.
Last week at the combine, the 49ers were checking in with agents on the cornerback market, thus confirming that they are indeed looking to upgrade their secondary.
Based on this report, it may not be Revis, but that doesn’t mean they won’t be adding a defensive piece or two.
