How sweet would it have been to see a Bay Area swap?
Pro Football Central is reporting that the Oakland Raiders jumped in at the last second regarding Alex Smith.
The 49ers were closing in on a deal to send Smith to the Chiefs in the past couple of days, and it that trade is now reportedly complete, with the Niners acquiring a second round pick in this year’s draft and a conditional third round pick for next year.
The rumor earlier this week stated that the 49ers would be acquiring a third round pick from the Chiefs for Smith, but because the Raiders jumped in, Kansas City bumped it up to a second rounder because they didn’t want to lose out to a divisional opponent.
So, the 49ers can thank their Bay Area rivals for getting them a better pick in the 2013 draft.
