Raiders Will Make a Run at Matt Cassel

The Oakland Raiders are intrigued by Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel, according to Pro Football Central.

Cassel is expected to be released by Kansas City following the acquisition of Alex Smith earlier today.

Cassel has been hurt the past few seasons, making only nine starts in both 2011 and 2012.

He was named a Pro Bowl alternate in 2010 after leading the Chiefs to an AFC West title.

Cassel first appeared in the spotlight in 2008, when he started in place of an injured Tom Brady for the Patriots.

If Cassel were to join the Raiders, something would have to be done regarding Oakland’s quarterback situation. They currently have both Carson Palmer and Terrelle Pryor on their roster.
