Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee is reporting that the 49ers do not have a trade in place for Alex Smith.
This comes a day after multiple sources indicated that a Smith trade to the Chiefs was “all but done,” and a rumor even surfaced that the 49ers would receive two draft picks from Kansas City.
A CBS Sports report on Sunday was the first to state that the 49ers had “effectively completed” a trade for Smith, but the team was not named.
Last week, head coach Jim Harbaugh revealed that the 49ers are looking to trade Smith.
“That will be a process that will play out: Alex Smith continuing to be a 49er or if a trade occurs in the next weeks or months, those are the two possibilities, the most likely possibilities,” Harbaugh told reporters at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis.
