Hector Sanchez didn’t play in the Giants’ Cactus League opener on Saturday because he’s been dealing with a right-shoulder injury. Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the young catcher suffered the injury while playing winter ball. More specifically, throwing in Venezuela.
Sanchez doesn’t know when he will be able to play in Cactus League games. He’s able to take batting practice, but throwing the ball is where his shoulder hinders him.
Sanchez, who came into camp overweight, won’t be rushed back into action, though. The Giants obviously have high hopes for him, as manager Bruce Bochy said that he could earn more starts than just his occasional fill-in for Buster Posey.
