San Jose Sharks forward Ryane Clowe will have a disciplinary hearing with the NHL on Monday regarding a play where he jumped off the bench to engage in an altercation with the Blackhawks Andrew Shaw on Friday.
Clowe had been suspended until the hearing, so he will not be playing in tonight’s game against the Stars. He could face up to a 10-game suspension at the hearing, reports TSN.
According to NHL Rule 70.1:
No player or goalkeeper may leave the players’ or penalty bench at any time during an altercation or for the purpose of starting an altercation. Substitutions made prior to the altercation shall be permitted provided the players so substituting do not enter the altercation.
Looking back at the replay, Clowe clearly jumped off the bench to fight Shaw, who had delivered a nasty check on Joe Pavelski.
Clowe has been struggling to find his scoring touch this season, with no goals through 16 games. Whether he gets suspended or not, this “incident” simply puts another dent in this disappointing start.
