The University of California Golden Bears visit Oregon State to take on the Beavers in a PAC-12 battle in Corvallis, OR. Cal (17-9, 9-5 Pac-12) beat Oregon 48 – 46 in Eugene, OR last Thursday. The Beavers (13-14, 3-11 Pac-12) lost to Stanford 82 – 72 at home on Thursday.
Cal is by Allen Crabbe (19.5 points per game), Justin Cobbs (14.7 ppg), Richard Solomon (8.6 ppg), and David Kravish (8.1 ppg). Kravish leads the Bears in rebounding with 7.0 rebounds per game, followed by Solomon (6.7 rpg) and Crabbe (5.7 rpg). Cobbs is the leading playmaker with 4.6 assists per game.
Cal shoots 44.9 percent from the field, 31.0 percent behind the 3-point line, and 70.7 percent from the free throw line.
The Beavers are led by Roberto Nelson (17.6 ppg), Devon Collier (12.9 ppg), Joe Burton (11.6 ppg), and Ahmad Starks (11.3 ppg). Eric Moreland leads the Beavers in rebounding with 10.5 rpg, while Burton and Collier contribute 6.4 and 6.3 rpg, respectively. Burton leads the Beavers with 3.4 apg, while Nelson dishes out 2.6 apg.
The Beavers shoot 45.2 percent from the field, 36.3 percent behind the 3-point line, and 66.8 percent from the free throw line.
Both teams like to push the pace when fast break opportunities present themselves, but Cal should prevail if they can contain OSU’s Nelson. Crabbe needs to set up his perimeter jumper with some dribble penetration and hopefully finish at the rim and/or get to the free throw line. Cobbs’ penetration is important for his scoring as well as dishing to Crabbe on the perimeter, Kravish in the high post, and Solomon in the lane.
It will be Senior Day for OSU’s Joe Burton, so Cal will have to overcome the sentimental home crowd at Gill Coliseum.
Tip off is 3 pm Pacific time.
