Santa Clara got to see firsthand why No. 3 Gonzaga is a legitimate contender for the national championship.
The Broncos scored the first basket of the game but never led again as a 15-0 Gonzaga run sparked their dominant 85-42 West Coast Conference win on Thursday night.
Santa Clara guard Kevin Foster scored the first basket on a jumper to give Santa Clara (19-9, 7-6 WCC) a 2-0 lead but the Broncos went the next 6:18 without a basket and Gonzaga took full advantage.
The Bulldogs (26-2, 13-0) scored 15 unanswered points before Santa Clara scored again and at one point held a 40-11 lead in the first half.
Gonzaga put on a clinic on offense and defense. The Bulldogs shot 56 percent from the field and held Santa Clara to 30 percent.
Eleven players scored for Gonzaga and was led by Elias Harris with 17 points and nine rebounds.
Player of the Year candidate Kelly Olynyk scored 14 points on 7-for-9 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds.
Mike Hart also had a big night for the Bulldogs as he had six points and seven rebounds, five of which were offensive boards.
Santa Clara had only one player reach double figures (Brandon Clark: 14) and were dominated on the boards 45-22.
The Broncos have little time to recover as they will face Portland (10-18, 3-9) at the Chiles Center on Saturday.
