A's: Balfour Out 4-6 Weeks With Torn Meniscus

A’s closer Grant Balfour will be out 4-6 weeks with a torn meniscus in his right knee and will have surgery today.

However, Balfour does expect to be ready for Opening Day. If not, the A’s have plenty of viable replacements such as Ryan Cook or Sean Doolittle.

Balfour was 3-2 with a 2.53 ERA and recorded 24 saves last season after taking over the closer role from Cook. He was a fan favorite, inspiring the “Mad Aussie” routine from the faithful in right field.
