The San Francisco Giants and catcher Buster Posey are open to discussing a long-term contract this spring, GM Brian Sabean told reporters on Friday.

Posey signed a one-year, $8 million deal earlier this offseason to avoid arbitration.

Posey is coming off of an amazing 2012 season, where he won the NL MVP Award and his second World Series’ title in three years.

He hit a blistering .336 with 24 home runs and 103 RBI, claiming the batting title and the Comeback Player of the Year Award after Scott Cousins derailed his 2011 campaign.

There is no question that the Giants would like to ink Posey to a blockbuster, multi-year contract, and it sure looks to be heading that way.

Honestly, I don’t think anybody can imagine him playing in a different uniform.
