Losing the Super Bowl is one thing, but losing relatives in a car crash is unimaginable.
49ers’ tight end Delanie Walker’s aunt and uncle, Alice and Bryan Young, were killed by a drunk driver the day after the Super Bowl in New Orleans.
Walker tweeted earlier today that the incident occurred at 5 a.m. on Monday morning.
A local news station in New Orleans reported a crash around 5:30 a.m. on I-10 near mile marker 214.
Nechole Thomas, a 26-year-old Houston resident, was driving “at a high rate of speed” on I-10 westbound when she hit the rear of a vehicle stopped on the shoulder, according to state police. Both vehicles caught on fire.
Both people in the car stopped in the shoulder were killed, while Thomas escaped with minor injuries.
49ers CEO Jed York issued his condolences on Twitter:
Thoughts & prayers go out to @dwalk46 We are praying for you and your family
