The Seattle investment group led by Chris Hansen that has agreed to buy the Sacramento Kings has filed for relocation to Seattle.
NBA commissioner David Stern broke the news to AP on Wednesday, calling the group “very strong.”
The deadline to file for relocation was March 1.
Last month, the Maloofs agreed on a deal to sell their stake of the Kings to the Seattle group for roughly $341 million.
However, a lot of work still has to be done in order for the sale and relocation to occur. Mayor Kevin Johnson and the rest of Sacramento has been working extremely hard to keep the Kings in town, and Johnson is gathering investors to make a counter-offer.
Johnson will then lobby in front of the NBA Board of Governors, who will make the final decision on the fate of the Kings.
