Jim Harbaugh gets his way most of the time, so when an opposing team calls for permission to interview one of his prized assistants, you know what he’s going to do .
The 49ers blocked the Saints from interviewing secondary coach Ed Donatell for their defensive coordinator position on Wednesday.
This is the second time Donatell has been denied the opportunity for a promotion; last season the Buccaneers were blocked from interviewing him.
However, Donatell says the decision was fair and he has no qualms about it:
“It’s fair because I signed that contract,” Donatell told CSN. “I had a choice not to. You look at every year and make that decision. I am under contract. Things are in place in San Francisco, if you look at what (general manager) Trent Baalke has done in the personnel department and the shape the roster is in. I know how hard it is to create this chemistry and harmony that Harbaugh has created here. It’s a winning environment and attitude. He’s created a great environment to work in.”
Donatell served as a defensive coordinator for the Packers from 2000-2003 and the Falcons from 2004-2006.
