Well, we have finally arrived folks. Super Bowl XLVII, or more widely known as 47, underway at the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans. We’ll be bringing it to you all game long with our live blog. Everything from the national anthem to commercials, and of course the game itself, will be covered.
This year’s matchup, ‘The HarBowl’, is full of story lines and will hopefully be a thriller. Brother vs brother, Ray Lewis’ last game and looking to go out on top, 2 dominant defenses, and a young quarteback in Colin Kaepernick who has been absolutely stellar since he took over for Alex Smith.
Stay tuned for some pre-game analysis as well as my thoughts throughout the game!
Thanks for following along on our live blog. Great job Aaron and we’ll see you next season, Niners fans!
All in all, a great game with the 49ers ALMOST getting the greatest comeback in NFL history. Will definitely be hoping for a rematch next season!
Tedd Ginn unable to return the kick and your Super Bowl 47 victors are the Baltimore Ravens. Final score 34-31.
The Ravens play the safe bet and take the safety, so 49ers need a return touchdown to win. Or the fair catch and get the unrushed free field goal attempt. Definitely deep in the rule book that one is.
Take that back, 11 second differential with Baltimore calling a timeout.
49ers defense gets the 3 and out, 9 second differential between play clock and game clock. Music City Miracle, part 2?
Ravens bring the house, lots of contact from both receiver and defensive back for a ball thrown in the air by Kaepernick. 1st and 10 Ravens take over. 1:46 in the game.
Crabtree takes a BIG hit and now its 4th and goal.
Incomplete pass, 3rd and goal, 2-down territory. 49ers call their 2nd timeout.
2-minute warning, 2nd and goal upcoming for the 49ers.
Gore with a huge run down the left sideline for 33 yards. 1st and goal.
49ers go deep and the pass goes off of Vernon Davis’ fingertips. Oline got away with a hold. Next play Kaepernick fires a 24 yard strike down the middle to Crabtree. Ball on Baltimore 40 yard line.
Career-defining drive right here for Kaepernick. Can he pull it off?
49ers staring on their own 20 yard line, Gore with a 7 yard run on first down.
49ers get the stop with the Ravens going pass, Justin Tucker coming out and hitting the field goal to make it a 5 points game. 34-29 Ravens lead, 4:23 left in the game.
3rd and 7 from the San Francisco 25, 2 49ers players offside, 3rd and 2 now. Biggest play of the game so far.
Harbaugh wins the challenge and the 49ers keep the timeout. 3rd and inches Baltimore goes pass and Boldin with the back shoulder catch. Rogers with great coverage on that play too.
Jim Harbaugh is going to challenge the spot after the ‘chain gain’ confirms a first down for the Ravens. A pretty risky call considering the 49ers have 2 timeouts remaining and will need them both.
3rd and 9 and Culliver gets called for pass interference, ball placed at the 36 yard line. Good news as Pierce comes back into the game for the Ravens.
Another 3rd down coming up, NaVorro Bowman a great play to stop the run in the backfield.
Baltimore to start on their own 21 yard line.
Will it come down to Akers? #49ers

Ravens brought more guys than the 49ers could block and the 2-point conversion is no good. 31-29 Ravens lead.
Kaepernick touchdown! A run after the scramble taking advantage of the Ravens bringing the house on the blitz. 49ers going for 2 to tie the game. 31-29.
Correction that pass went to the Ravens 41. Then a run by Gore for 18 yards down to the Ravens 21.
Moss with his 2nd catch of the game, a 32 yard catch. San Francisco at their own 41.
1st and 10 from the 24 Frank Gore with a 5 yard gain. 12:35 left in the game.
49ers get the big stop and force Flacco to throw the ball away. 49ers were close to a late hit penalty but no flag. 19 yard field goal by Tucker is good, 31-23 Ravens lead.
Rice down to the 1 yard line, Goldson with the tackle. 2nd and goal.
Now a first and goal from the 5 after a play action pass to Boldin.
1st and 10 from the San Francisco 18.
Huge blow for Baltimore as Ngata is still out with the injured knee and is doubtful to return.
Bernard Pierce picks up the first down on 3rd and inches for the Ravens and stays down and is hurt. End of the 3rd quarter. 28-23 Ravens.
Boldin with a huge 3rd down conversion for the Ravens that ends up being a 30 yard play and moves the chains.
Delaine just NAILS Jacoby Jones lifting him off his feet, but Jones still got the ball to the 28 yard line.
Ray Rice lost 1 fumble all regular season. He’s lost 3 in the playoffs.#ravens #49ers #SB47
— Scott Reiss (@ScottReissCSN) February 4, 2013
Running into the kicker, 5 yard penalt making it 4th and 2. Akers gets shot number 2 at the field goal, this time from 34, and he drills it. 28-23 Ravens lead now to less than a touchdown.
Kaepernick to the end zone for Ted Ginn Jr. but great coverage by Baltimore and they knock the ball away. 39 yard field goal attemp by Akers is no good. Flag on the play.
Ray Rice with the fumble after a pass catch, 49ers recover! Brown with the strip and San Francisco starts on Baltimore 24.
FYI..San Fran is 22-0-1 in their last 23 games in which they’ve scored at least 20 pts.
— trey wingo (@wingoz) February 4, 2013
The Akers extra point makes it 28-20 and this game just got very interesting.
Ngata also went down on the play and is heading to the locker room for the Ravens.
Frank Gore touchdown on a first and goal from the 6. A great designed play and block by Delaine Walker. Folks, we have a game again.
On queue a bad punt by Koch that is returned by Ginn all the way to the Ravens 20 yard line, with Koch forcing him out of bounds.
Ahmad Brooks with the sack as he comes untouched off the edge. Do I sense a momentum shift?
49ers defense looks to be coming alive, 3rd and 10 now for the Ravens at their own 17 yard line.
San Francisco actually LEADING in yards right now even with the lopsided score. 49ers 294, Ravens 265.
It was actually a 15 yard pass, with Crabtree gaining the last 15 on his own.
Touchdown 49ers! Crabtree, the master of yards after catch, absorbs 2 hits and heads into the end zone! 31 yard pass. 28-13 Ravens lead.
SF calls their first timeout of the half.
49ers really need to start picking up the pace on offense just a bit. They are eating too much time.
Kaepernick goes deep to Crabtree but he just cannot hang on. Big 3rd down completion to Moss on the next play.
Kaepernick with 2 straight scrambles for a total of 20 yards and a first down.
5-wide on 3rd and 7 for the Ravens and the 49ers are able to bring Ray Rice down about a yard short of the first down marker. A touchback on the punt.
It has been 84 minutes since the Ravens offense has taken the field. And they start their drive with a 15 yard pass play.
And San Fracisco, with 35 minutes to come up with a play are forced to go underneath and have to punt.
It will be 3rd and 13 for the 49ers, 13:22 left to play in the 3rd quarter.
And play resumes after a 34 minute delay

Power issue at the Super Dome appears to be in the customer’s side. Entergy is providing power to the Dome.
— Entergy New Orleans (@EntergyNOLA) February 4, 2013
Now we’re getting a live shot of John Harbaugh who is very visibly upset, and rightfully so.
Video of the outage here: http://goldengatesports.com/2013/02/03/super-bowl-power-outage/
Conspiracy theory: CBS did this. Who had the most to gain by extending the game by an extra 30 mins????
— Bill Simmons (@BillSimmons) February 4, 2013
We’ll see how this delay helps or hurts the 49ers. Flacco and the offense haven’t been on the field since before halftime, but the 49ers offense was driving down the field.
Another 15 minutes before game resumes
The crowd has now resorted to the wave to kill time.
Players trying to stay loose by strectching and moving around
Half of the stadium is still without power
Time to call the game and ask for a redo!
Maybe they’re bringing Beyonce back? #SB47 #49ers
— Scott Reiss (@ScottReissCSN) February 4, 2013
The lights, scoreboard and video boards all just went dead. Power is off in the press box.
— Baltimore Ravens (@Ravens) February 4, 2013
CBS microphone just went dead as well, we’re now at a commercial break. Bizarre
Lights just went out at the Superdome
A great start to this drive with a nice 29 yard pass play to Crabtree.
LaMichael James tries to get the 49ers started but gets stopped insde the 15 yard line. 49ers need a touchdown on this drive.
Well we’re off to a flying start once again
Oh boy… Jacoby Jones starts off the second half with a 109 yard kickoff return touchdown. This could get ugly folks. 28-6 Ravens.
How the hell was Cary Williams not thrown out for this ref shove? [GIF] sbn.to/WRaMaC

Can Beyonce play cornerback? #49ers
— Casey Pratt (@CaseyPrattCSN) February 4, 2013
2 big keys to Ravens’ dominance in that first half.
1) 0 turnovers compared to 49ers 2
2) Ravens 6/8 on 3rd downs, 49ers are only 1/5
I concur
Pretty impressed so far. Whoever her pyrotechnics and special effects teams are, they deserve raises.
Single ladies!
I need to get me one of those guitars!
And this time she’s not lip-syncing
Beyonce just about to take the stage
Jim Harbaugh’s having a long talk with the official as his team leaves for halfitime
— Tim Kawakami (@timkawakami) February 4, 2013
Akers hits his second field goal of the game and the Ravens take a 21-6 lead into half-time.
Kapernick looks like he had Crabtree open on a sprint to the right but didn’t pull the trigger and has to head to the grass to eat clock and can only get 3 points.
CORRECTION: Greatest comeback in Super Bowl history is 10 points — Redskins (Doug Williams game) and Saints trailed 10-0.
— Bud Geracie (@WakeOfWeek) February 4, 2013
San Francisco calls their 2nd timeout of the half after a run for no gain by Gore. 3rd and 2 from the Baltimore 9 yard line. 21 seconds left in the half.
57 seconds left, 49ers 1st and 10 from Baltimore 18.
Great blitz pick-up by Gore and he gives Kaepernick enough time to throw a 28 yard strike to Delaine Walker.
49ers draw their first penalty of the game on a roughing the passer call against Ngata for the late hit. Now at the Raven’s 45 yard line.
49ers now in 2 minute offense mode
Chris Culliver gets beaten on that one. Jacob Jones with 56-yard TD catch. Only second 40+ TD 49ers have allowed this season.
— Matt Maiocco (@MaioccoCSN) February 4, 2013
And a blown coverage by the secondary results in a 56 yard TD catch by Jacoby Jones. He caught the ball at around the 7 or 8 yard line and then gets up and finished the play. 21-3 Ravens lead.
I’d like to thanks the NFL for bringing the replacement ref all-star team to the Super Bowl. #SB47
— Damon Bruce (@DamonBruce) February 4, 2013
Ravens get away with a pretty blatant offensive pass interference call there with Culliver in perfect position and the ball going right through his hands. 2 minute warning.
A fumbled punt with no 49ers close enough, Jacoby Jones picks it up and runs for a few yards, then more chipiness after the whistle.
This is the first time after an interception that Colin Kaepernick has not responded with a TD drive.
— Matt Maiocco (@MaioccoCSN) February 4, 2013
49ers conservative once again on 3rd down with a draw play up the middle. San Francisco forced to punt, and once again Baltimore will get great field position.
Ravens stack the box on first down with the 49ers backed up to their own end zone, no gain. 2nd and 10
Baltimore Ravens with the fake field goal, McBath an INCREDIBLE tackle to stop Tucker 1 yard short on the run. 49ers take over!
49ers can’t stop Ray Rice on 3rd down, Ravens now 1st and 10 from the 15.
RT @pmgleason: Ed Reed now has 9 career playoff INTs, tied with 3 other players for the most in NFL playoff history. #Ravens
— Baltimore Ravens (@Ravens) February 4, 2013
First SF QB to be intercepted in a Super Bowl. That’s just a reminder how good Joe Montana was.
— Clark Judge (@ClarkJudgeCBS) February 4, 2013
And now the game is getting VERY chippy. Baltimore great starting position once again, this time at the San Francisco 40. Defense needs to hold to a field goal here.
Colin Kapernick throws an interception on a pass that was intended for Randy Moss and the only one there was Ed Reed.
10 play, 75 yard drive in under 5 minutes for the Ravens on their second touchdown drive.
Tight ends combined already 8 catches for 201 yards #superbowl #ravens #49ers
— Scott Reiss (@ScottReissCSN) February 4, 2013
Play action pass on 2nd an goal and a second TD pass by Flacco to Dennis Pitta. Tucker hits the extra point, 14-3 Ravens. The fumble comes back to hurt the 49ers.
After a 10ish yard completion to Ed Dickson, Whitner flagged for a face-mask on the tackle giving the Ravens a first and goal from the 4 yard line.
Baltimore now driving, ball near midfield once again.
Unfortunate fumble since the 49ers were engineering another great drive showing their dominance with the o-lineman.
First turnover of the game as LaMichael James with the fumble and Ravens recover. Jim Harbaugh obviously not happy. Play looked like a clear fumble, although I thought I heard some early whistles.
Ray Lewis looks like he retired before the game.#SB47
— Ann Killion (@annkillion) February 4, 2013
A 29 yard catch and run for Vernon Davis who was being covered by Ray Lewis. Mismatch all day.
GoDaddy was disturbing, to say the least
So far not impressed by the commercials. What’s up with that?
49ers pass rush FINALLY taking Flacco down on 3rd and long to end the first quarter. Ravens 7, 49ers 3.
And Culliver gets beat on a hail mary type thrown by Flacco with Boldin going up and getting the ball for a 30-yd completion.
Even Anquan Boldin is prone to alligator arms when he goes over the middle.
49ers run defense looking great early on, now facing a 3rd and 1
Davis appeared to be shaken up as well
Big, possible, injury news early as Ed Reed was seen heading to the locker room. I assume it was when he hit Vernon Davis.
Paul Kruger a great move and gets the sack to stall the 49ers drive. 36-yd field goal by David Akers and he nails it! 7-3 Ravens.
Vernon Davis with a great grab and the 49ers are 1st and goal from the 8 yard line.
Frank Gore another first down, able to slip by Ray Lewis on that tackle for extra yards.
Great run for Frank Gore after getting stuffed a few times early, 49ers offense starting to get into rhythm.
Michael Crabtree with the first first-down of the game for the 49ers off of a 19 yd catch and run.
Let’s put it this way, 2013 playoff-style: Packers 7, #49ers 0 … Falcons 17, #49ers 0 … Ravens 7, #49ers 0. You with me? #SB47
— Brian Murphy (@knbrmurph) February 3, 2013
#49ers had scored first in 4 of other 5 Super Bowls. Exception: gave up FG to Dolphinsin 1984 season’s Super Bowl (38-10 49ers win)
— Cam Inman (@CamInman) February 3, 2013
Once again Justin Tucker gives LaMichael James no chance at a return, 49ers to start their second straight drive from their own 20 yard line.
And Baltimore strikes first with a TD strike from Flacco to Boldin. Extra point by Tucker is good, 7-0 Ravens.
Another penalty by the 49ers after getting the stop, already giving the Ravens some breaks.
49ers staying conservative on 3rd and long and just go with the run. Baltimore with great starting position near the 50 yard line.
First play of the game, great pass to Vernon Davis, but an illegal formation negates that 20+ yard pass.
Ravens win the toss and defer, the 49ers will start the game with the ball.
Interesting choice going with Alex Smith…
#49ers game captains: Frank Gore, Justin Smith, @patrickwillis52, Alex Smith and @cjspillman27. #SB47 #QuestforSix

Alicia Keys’ rendition of the National Anthem was incredible!
Classy move to add in the Sandy Hook Choir.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Peter King, the Ravens fans outnumber the 49ers fans 2 to 1.
Also no dance for ‘Ray Ray’ as Eric said, not sure why.
He didn’t do his dance!
Ravens about to come out the tunnel, last time we’ll see Ray Lewis do his dance.
Super Bowl 47 crew led by Jerome Boger. In the 2 games he officiated for San Francisco, they had over 600 rushing yards.
T-minus 30 minutes!
