Santa Clara routed by BYU, five-game win streak snapped

Santa Clara got its second shot against BYU and it played out in similar fashion of their last meeting.

Matt Carlino dropped a season high 28 points on the Broncos to help BYU cruise to the 96-79 West Coast Conference win, completing the sweep of Santa Clara.

The Broncos (17-7, 5-4 WCC) were within one at halftime but had its offensive game leave them in the second. Santa Clara shot 31 percent in the second half and saw BYU go on a 27-8 run, which put the Cougars up 81-61.

Santa Clara had something similar happen back on Jan. 12 against BYU. They played even for a half and saw BYU go on an 18-0 run in the second.

Carlino also had six assists to go along with his 28 points, which was two off his career-high. Tyler Haws continued his stellar play with 24 points on 11-for 17 shooting.

BYU (18-6, 8-2) shot 60 percent in the second half and 58 percent for the game.

Kevin Foster had a team-high 18 points on 6-for-18 shooting and nine assists. Marc Trasolini had another solid performance with 15 points and eight rebounds.

Santa Clara had five players in double figures.
