When the boss comes calling, you know you’re in trouble.
49ers’ CEO Jed York hosted a media session today, and spoke about Chris Culliver’s controversial anti-gay remarks.
“I saw him this morning and told him, ‘It’s up to you to live up to your apology,’ ” York said. “He made a bold statement of wanting to get to know the LGBT community.”
York continued to call the comments “uninformed” and “juvenile,” saying, “he can grow in his sort of experience and be a beacon for everybody in the locker room for the 49ers and hopefully throughout the NFL.”
The 49esr issued a statement yesterday rejecting Culliver’s remarks that he would not welcome gays into the locker room:
The San Francisco 49ers reject the comments that were made yesterday, and have addressed the matter with Chris. There is no place for discrimination within our organization at any level. We have and always will proudly support the LGBT community
Culliver, in turn, apologized for his comments.
