SAP co-founder Hasso Plattner has become the majority shareholder of the San Jose Sharks, taking over from Kevin Compton and Stratton Sclavos.

Plattner is worth $7.2 billion, but declined to say how much of the team he now owns.

The German entrepreneur says that the goal remains the same for the Sharks: win a Stanley Cup.

“We still want to have a championship team and win the Stanley Cup,” he said. “That’s clearly the No. 1 objective of a sports club; otherwise you should not be in the sports business.”

The Sharks are owned by San Jose Sports & Entertainment Enterprises, which is made up of eight investors.
