Culliver Apologizes Profusely For Anti-Gay Comments

For the first time since he made anti-gay remarks during an interview, 49ers’ cornerback Chris Culliver spoke to the media and apologized profusely.

“I don’t do the gay guys man,” Culliver told Artie Lange on Wednesday. ”I don’t do that. No, we don’t got no gay people on the team, they gotta get up out of here if they do.”

This morning, Culliver was surrounded by media and said repeatedly “that’s not what’s in my heart,” and “I’m sorry if I offended anyone.”

He also revealed that he had gay relatives.

Culliver issued a statement last night, a portion of it reading:

The derogatory comments I made yesterday were a reflection of thoughts in my head, but they are not how I feel. It has taken me seeing them in print to realize that they are hurtful and ugly.

One thing’s for certain: this is the last thing the 49ers need, with the Super Bowl just four days away.
