Cardinal Promote Mike Bloomgren to Offensive Coordinator

The Stanford Cardinal have promoted offensive line coach Mike Bloomgren to the position of offensive coordinator.

Bloomgren will replace Pep Hamilton, who left to take the OC job with the Indianapolis Colts.

The 2011-2012 season was Blomgren’s first season at Stanford. From 2007-2011 he was an assistant under Rex Ryan with the New York Jets, and was the assistant offensive coordinator from 2009-2011.

I’m very excited about elevating Mike Bloomgren,” Stanford head coach David Shaw said in a release. “He was the only choice. We didn’t interview anybody else, and we didn’t want to interview anyone else. Mike has done an outstanding job with our offensive line and run game, though he’s more than an offensive line coach. He understands our offense and how diverse we need to be to attack defenses. We hope to continue the success we’ve had on offense, while also improving in many areas, and Mike is the right guy to lead us to our goals.”

Stanford is coming off a successful season that concluded with a win in the Rose Bowl earlier this month.
