It can be argued that many of the players on the 49ers deserve to be team MVP. Colin Kaepernick, Frank Gore, Justin Smith, Patrick Willis, the list goes on and on.

But one player specifically stood out, as Aldon Smith was voted the team’s MVP on Monday afternoon

The second-year middle linebacker record 66 tackles, 19.5 sacks and one interception in 16 games during the regular season, setting a franchise record for sacks despite not recording one in his last five games.

“There’s a lot of guys that are good, there’s a lot of guys that could have gotten that award,” Smith said. “So, it’s an honor.”

Smith was selected with the seventh overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, and has erupted into the scene. Along with Willis, the duo forms arguable the most dominant 1-2 linebacker combo in the league.
