Maloofs Will Sell Kings to Sacramento Investors if NBA Blocks Seattle Deal

Minority Kings owner Bob Cook has told CBS13 that he believes the Maloofs will sell the Kings to a local Sacramento investor if the NBA blocks the Seattle deal on the table.

The Maloofs reached an agreement to sell the Kings to a Seattle-based investment group led by Chris Hansen earlier this week, but the deal needs to be finalized by the NBA Board of Governors first.

NBA Comissioner David Stern has promised Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson an opportunity to present a counter-offer to the Board of Governors and convince them to vote down the sale.

Earlier today, it was reported that potential investor and business magnate Ron Burkle met with Stern in New York City for two hours, presenting an idea for a new stadium near downtown Sacramento. Burkle and 24-Hour Fitness founder Mark Mastrov are speculated to be the “white whales,” or heavy-hitters that could buy the team and keep them in Sacramento.
