Izzy, the daughter of former A’s catcher Landon Powell, passed away tonight after battle with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), an immune deficiency disorder.
Powell and his wife, Allyson, recently had twins.
Izzy was being treated at a Cincinnati hospital where she had been in critical condition for the past few days.
A Facebook page titled “Prayers for Izzy” was set up by Powell and his wife, and Allyson posted this 14 hours ago:
This is it. The next 24 hours for Izzy have to be awesome. She has been given her meds for four days now and if we don’t have a turn around today, they feel there is nothing that can be done. She really is fighting with all she has. She is getting so many sedation meds and she still fights over them to open her eyes when we talk to her! This momma is praying hard for Izzy to have a turn around, but I know of she doesn’t she has the most awesome alternative. But I still want to keep her just one more day.
It is simply heart-wrenching to read those words, and even harder to imagine how a tragedy like this can happen.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Powell family for their loss.
