Despite a stirring performance by senior Alim Moor, the San Jose State Spartans were defeated by conference leader Louisiana Tech 76 – 54 in the Event Center. The Bulldogs (17 – 3, 8 – 0 WAC) pulled away in the second half, led by Raheem Appleby (17 points), Alex Hamilton (15 points), and Brandon Gibson (13 points). The Bulldogs crashed the boards hard, as Michale Kyser, Chris Anderson, and Hamilton pulled down six rebounds each. Hamilton also had a game-high eight assists.
The Bulldogs shot 44.6% (29-of-65) from the field, 23.8% (5-of-21) behind the 3-point line, and 92.9% (13-of-14) from the charity stripe. The Bulldogs out-rebounded San Jose State 40 – 25.
Moor scored a career-high 14 points, with DJ Brown contributing 11 points for the Spartans (9 – 10, 3 – 5 WAC). Chris Cunningham added nine points and seven rebounds. Reserve David Andoh grabbed five rebounds, while Moor also led the Spartans in assists with four.
The Spartans shot 40.0% (20-of-50) from the field, 35.7% (5-of-14) behind the 3-point line, and 60.0% (9-of-15) from the charity stripe.
The Spartans host Texas-Arlington Saturday at the Event Center. Tip off is 7 pm Pacific time.
