Raiders Hire Tony Sparano to Coach Offensive Line

UPDATE: The Raiders have now confirmed the hiring of Sparano

The Oakland Raiders have hired Tony Sparano as an assistant and offensive line coach, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Sparano was the head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 2008-2011, and led them to the playoffs in his first season, turning around a 1-15 team the year before.

He was fired in 2011, and became the offensive coordinator of the New York Jets for the 2012 season. Sparano was fired on Jan. 7 after the Jets finished with the worst offense in the league.

He will be working with newly-hired offensive coordinator Greg Olson on the Raiders’ power-running scheme.

The Raiders have not confirmed the hiring.
