Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson didn’t reveal much in his press conference Wednesday afternoon.
He did not name the “whales,” although reports named Mark Mastrov and Ron Burkle last night as the two heavy-hitter investors that could keep the Kings in Sacramento.
However, he did say that “we have made considerable progress in our discussions with the potential ownership group.”
Johnson will speak with commissioner David Stern on Thursday, as he prepares to present a counter-offer in front of the NBA Board of Governors.
An earlier report claimed that board has already began “vesting” through the deal between the Maloofs and Chris Hansen’s investment group that would sell the Kings and relocate them to Seattle.
