Spartans Blown Out in New Mexico

Two days after an embarrassing 73-37 loss to the Pioneers, the Spartans were handed yet another beating by the New Mexico State Aggies on the road.

Bandja Sky led the Aggies with 16 points, as they defeated San Jose State 70-53.

The Spartans were outrebounded 42-20 and shot just 38 percent from the field. LaVanne Pennington was the only starter who had any kind of success, scoring 16 points. Chris Cunningham was absolutely dismal, making 1/8 shot attempts.

The game was lost in the first half, where the Aggies nearly doubled up the score on the Spartans by closing on a 16-2 run. Kevin Aronis’ 3-pointer with less than a minute remaining capped off the half, and New Mexico was up 35-18.

Any attempt by the Spartans to make a comeback was nonexistent. They failed to put together a much-needed scoring run, and the Aggies ran away with a convincing 17-point victory.

The Spartans are now 3-4 in conference play and 9-9 overall. They will face Louisiana Tech next Thursday.
