Yesterday, it was reported that the Sharks had tendered a contract offer to free agent Scott Gomez.
Gomez is meeting with Sharks coaches and management in San Jose as we speak, reports TSN.
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun thinks that the Sharks will offer Gomez a one-year deal worth $700,000.
His relationship with associate coach Larry Robinson is key. Gomez played for the Devils in 2005-2006, where Robinson was the head coach.
Gomez was placed on waivers by the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday, who will be held accountable for his $7.3 million salary.
The forward had a disappointing 2011-2012 season with Montreal, scoring two goals with nine assists in 38 games.
Gomez, who is 33, was a solid player for the Devils and Rangers for the first nine years of his career. He recorded 33 goals and 51 assists with the Devils during the 2005-2006 season.
General manager Doug Wilson has been quoted as saying that the Sharks would not be active in the free agent market before the start of the regular season on Sunday, but it appears like he’s making an exception for Gomez.
