Giants Notes: Sandoval Hospitalized, Mijares Avoids Arbitration

Some Giants’ notes from Thursday:

Sandoval Hospitalized in Venezeula

Third baseman Pablo Sandoval was hospitalized in Venezuela with an abdominal inflammation (aka stomach pains).

Sandoval is currently playing for the Navegantes del Magallane, a Winter League team.

His team released a statement saying that there are no physical complications and Sandoval is expected to be released in 24 to 48 hours.

Sandoval is coming off of an incredible postseason where he hit .364 with six home runs to claim the World Series’ MVP Award.

Giants Sign Mijares

The Giants have agreed to a one-year, $1.8 million contract with left-handed relief pitcher Jose Mijares to avoid arbitration, reports MLB Trade Rumors.

Mijares, who was claimed off of waivers midway through the 2012 season, had a 1-0 record with a 2.55 ERA in 27 games with the Giants.

The five-year veteran has a career ERA of 3.00 with the Twins, Royals, and Giants.
