Commissioner David Stern has allowed mayor Kevin Johnson and the city of Sacramento to make a counter for the Kings directly to the NBA, Johnson revealed at the State of Downtown Address.
They will counter a $525 million offer from a Seattle investment group to buy the Kings.
“We want this to be the final act of a saga that’s gone on for far too long,” Johnson said.
Last week, reports circulated that the Maloof brothers were close to a deal to sell the team to the Chris Hansen-led investment group, relocating them to Seattle.
However, nothing has been finalized and we have not heard from either side about the deal.
Johnson has vowed to “fight like crazy” to keep the Kings in Sacramento.
