The Giants are not giving up on signing Tim Lincecum to a long-term deal, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. The prospect of giving him a long-term contract played a role in their roster transactions this off-season.
Lincecum is coming off a horrible 2012, when he had a 10-15 record with a 5.18 ERA, the highest among major league starting pitchers.
His body of work in previous years certainly screams “big contract,” (two Cy Youngs, four All-Star appearances), but many are worried that the 2012 season was the beginning of his downfall.
Nevertheless, the 2013 season will be crucial for Lincecum if he wants to land that long-term deal with the Giants.
