The Warriors rejected a trade for Memphis small forward Rudy Gay, sources tell Legion Sports.
A report that surfaced two days ago indicated that the two teams did talk about a potential trade, but neither was interested in what the other had to offer.
The Grizzlies were not interested in taking the Warriors’ large contracts (Richard Jefferson, Andris Biedrins), while Warriors did not want to give up any of their young pieces (Klay Thompson, Harrison Barnes).
Nevertheless, that didn’t stop the Grizzlies from putting together an offer, one that the Warriors apparently declined.
Rumors have been swirling about Gay being dealt, with the Kings, Raptors, Suns, and Timberwolves all interested. He is owed $37 million over the next two years following this season.
Gay has spent all seven seasons of his NBA career with the Grizzlies and has an average of 17.9 points per game.
