The University of San Francisco Dons host the University of San Diego Toreros tonight at War Memorial Gym. The Dons (7 – 8, 0 – 2 WCC) are looking to break a two-game losing streak, including a home loss to BYU 80 – 76 on January 5. The Toreros (8 – 8, 1 – 0 WCC) are coming off a home win over Portland 61 – 50 on January 3.
The Dons are led in scoring by Cole Dickerson (15.9 points per game), De’End Parker (14.1 ppg), Cody Doolin (12.9 ppg), and Tim Derksen (8.8 ppg). Dickerson also leads USF in rebounding (11.7 rebounds per game), with Derksen adding 4.5 rpg. Doolin leads the Dons with 6.5 assists per game.
USF averages 70.3 ppg, shoots 45.8% from the field, 39.6% behind the 3-point line, and 64.1% from the free throw line.
The Toreros are led by 3-point specialist Johnny Dee (14.8 ppg), Ken Rancifer (9.9 ppg), Chris Manresa (9.8 ppg), and Christopher Anderson (9.6 ppg). Manresa rebounds at a 7.8 rpg clip, followed by Rancifer (4.3 rpg), and Anderson (3.9 rpg). Anderson dishes out 6.0 apg to lead the Toreros.
USD averages 66.6 ppg, shoots 44.7% from the field, 36.8% behind the 3-point line, and 70.0% from the charity stripe.
The Dons will attempt to limit touches for Johnny Dee, as he is the Toreros’ primary deep threat. USD will need to prevent penetration by Doolin, as he is prolific at finding open teammates or finishing in the lane. The Toreros will also need to block out USF’s Dickerson from the offensive boards, and guard the perimeter as Parker can also light it up from outside.
Tip off is 7 pm Pacific time.
