A's Sign RHP Resop to One-Year Deal, Avoid Arbitration

In an under-the-radar move, the A’s acquired right-handed relief pitcher Chris Resop from the Pittsburgh Pirates this off-season in exchange for minor-leaguer Zach Thornton.

Resop and the A’s avoided arbitration today with a one-year, $1.35 million deal that was first reported by MLB Trade Rumors.

Drafted by the Marlins in the fourth round in 2004, Resop has bounced around in the league quite a bit, playing for four different teams in eight seasons.

Last season, Resop was 1-4 with a 3.91 ERA in 73,2 innings pitched with the Pirates. Over his career, he owns a 9-11 record with a 4.51 ERA.

Bottom line, Resop will be just another addition to a pitching staff that is rock-steady and should be one of the best in baseball.
