The San Jose State Spartans host the New Orleans Privateers tonight in the Events Center. The Spartans (8 – 6, 3 – 1 WAC) defeated Seattle 76 – 71 on January 5 in San Jose. The Privateers (3 – 10) lost to Butler 57 – 44 in Indianapolis, IN on January 5.
Lovell Cook leads New Orleans in scoring averaging 13.2 points per game. Cory Dixon and Rarlensee Nelson add 8.6 ppg each. Dixon leads in rebounding with 4.2 rebounds per game, followed by Corey Blake with 3.4 rpg. Nelson is the Privateers’ top playmaker averaging 6.6 assists per game.
New Orleans averages 66.1 ppg, shoots 44.0% from the floor, 29.5% behind the 3-point line, and 61.5% from the free throw line.
The Spartans features James Kinney on the perimeter and Chris Cunningham in the post. Kinney averages a prolific 21.5 ppg, as well as helping out on the boards with 5.6 rpg. Cunningham averages 10.7 ppg and leads the Spartans in rebounding with 9.1 rpg. DJ Brown chips in 9.1 ppg, 3.9 rpg, and leads the Spartans with 4.7 apg. Center Alex Brown patrols the paint and grabs 5.3 rpg.
San Jose State averages 70.3 ppg, shoots 41.9% from the field, 34.3% behind the 3-point arc, and 68.8% from the charity stripe.
