Justin Smith’s status for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks never seemed optimistic in spite pf the 49ers effort to keep Seattle on their toes.

His status went from questionable to doubtful and back to questionable as the week progressed.  The reality of the situation, though, is that Smith will not play on Sunday night, reports Adam Schefter.

Smith’s streak of appearing in 185 games will also end tonight, as San Francisco’s defense takes a massive hit.

If last Sunday night, when the 49ers’ defense coughed up a 28-point lead to the Patriots, is an indication of how they will execute without Smith, Jim Harbaugh’s team could foreseeably have trouble handling a Seahawks’ offense that has compiled 108 points over their past two games. Granted, those two games came against Buffalo and Arizona, but they’re is riding high nonetheless.

To make matters worse for the 49ers’ defense, Smith will reportedly miss next week’s game against Arizona as well.
